This Week 2026 35
I think this week I will not keep to the same rigid structure that I usually do, I almost didn’t play any games, and only finished a couple of books over the two weeks, since I was on vacation at home visiting my family for the first time in a long while.
I did finish off the second book in the corporation wars series by Ken MacLeod, and enjoyed it quite a lot, there is finally some more politics in it, which I’m enjoying quite a bit, I also started reading the last one while going back to Austria, so that’s the one that I’m currently reading, I also read the last book in the sector scavengers series, and it was okay, but it didn’t really feel that much like the conclusion to a long series, it was a bit more meh than I had hoped for.
I went to Norway on the 18th and stayed until the 28th, had a great time visiting people I know, and it was quite a hectic series of days, went to Bergen visiting my Brother, his wife and my niece, first time I saw her, we had a lot of fun time playing and reading books for her and so on, and we also were at a speciality pub with 54 beers on tap that was really fun, found an ale that I really enjoyed “Alesmith speedway stout” it must be one of my favourite beers of all time. It was gray and rainy like it must be in Bergen.
The drive over and back we went over Hardangervidda, a mountain plateau 1700 m over the the water, and it was nice to look at, there was a lot of tunnels, each direction having 59 tunnels, so a lot of driving under ground there for sure.
Also shared a lot of beers over at my dads, so it was probably not a healthy week all in all, but I got to taste a lot of beers that I hadn’t yet, had my first kveik beer which was really good, kind of tasted like an IPA, but IPAs always have one kind of taste thing that I don’t quite like which this one didn’t.
Also visited my mum’s and my sister’s place so even more driving around, and we had a big dinner at my Aunt’s, with even more people being around. So there was a lot of time meeting people I haven’t seen in a while.
It was kind of nice and weird to being around Norwegian all the time, it’s so much easier for me to pick up things being said around, and not as easy to filter out as things in german usually is for me.
The flying was okay on the trip up, it was a pretty smooth ride, but on the trip back we had some turbulence, so I was sitting in my seat constantly being nervous, and meditatiing, because that was the only thing that really managed to calm me down enough that I didn’t freak out. So it’s good that the flight was only a bit over 2 hours.
It was a lot of fun, and nice to see everyone again, but I have to say it will be good to get back in a normal routine again as well.
It was interesting seeing Norwegian news again, they don’t really have that much to write about, apart from the king getting sick and dying, so that’s them being set for a couple of weeks now. It’s sad seeing the king go, he seemed like a decent person, but he’s been in and out of the hospital so much lately, that it’s probably better for him to finally let go now, and not having to deal with that.
So we’re getting a new king at home now. Not that it changes that much that we have gotten a new mascot.
I was a bit too optimistic about myself when planning the travel, didn’t think that when the plane was leaving at 07 I would have to get up at 03:30, so I had planned in to have 5 hours to look at Vienna, well, I was tired, managed to get a bit lost, ended up in a bad part of town, and got offered cocaine and weed, but found my way back to the station and basically hung around there for most of the time before I left.
Then on the way back the train was stopping for an hour between stations because they had some kind of lost person thing that they had to make sure was not on the rails, so I didn’t get back to my place before at 00:10, really tired. But all in all it was a nice trip, got to see a lot of places in my home country, and got a lot of time with my family. I probably should do that sooner this time than waiting as long, being nervous of the flights, It was bad, but surviveable.
Now I’m slowly getting back into being in austria again, and we’ll see how long it takes before it feels long away again, it almost already does, now that I’m back at work. It was 9 very quick days, where so much happened.
Probably will get back to the normal rhythm when my life get’s back to the normal routine of things I would think.
